TOBA TEK SINGH: A man was arrested on Friday on charge of raping an 80-year-old woman at Kamalia.

In the first information report (FIR), the complainant, the widow of Laal Muhammad of village Khokharanwali, informed the Kamalia Saddar police that she was asleep at her house when the suspect, a resident of village Chah Rajaywali, broke into her house after midnight.

The suspect overpowered her, tied her with a rope around her neck and raped her.

Police shifted the woman to the Kamalia Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for a medical examination. They claimed to have arrested the suspect.

DIES: An under-trial prisoner of the district jail died at the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.

An official said the deceased Muhammad Zaheer Gujjar and his brother, resident of Bhalwal (Sargodha), were arrested by Chuttiana police two months back in a kidnap case and they were in the district jail on 14 days judicial remand.

He said that on Nov 9, Zaheer suddenly fell ill and he was referred by the jail hospital doctor to the DHQ Hospital where he expired on Friday.

He said the body of the deceased would be handed over to his family after autopsy.
