Ahmad grabs double hat trick

LAHORE, Nov 15: A double hat trick by Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana propelled Millat Tractors to a 10 1/2-5 win over Sherwood in the season’s inaugural CJ Lysine Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Tuesday.

With a 1 1/2 goal handicap for his team, Ahmad, who scored seven goals, struck his first hat trick in the first chukker to make it 4 1/2-0.

Maintaining the pace of attack, Millat scored four more goals in the second chukker with Ahmad completing his second hat trick and Aurangzeb Monnoo adding one as the winners were 8 1/2-0 ahead.

Sherwood tried to stage a comeback as Ali Riaz scored a hat trick in the third chukker but a goal by Syed Muhammad Raza for Millat made it 9 1/2-3.

Taimur Ali Malik and Shahzad Aziz scored a goal each for the losers in the fourth chukker while Ahmad struck his seventh as Millat started the season with a big victory.

Having a half goal handicap, Spring Meadows defeated Free Lancers 7 1-2-3 in the second match.

Junaid Ahmad, Taimur Mawaz Khan and Ali Hashim Rizvi scored two goals each while Muhammad Reza Said chipped in with a goal.

For the losers, Azhar Ali (2) and Tanvir Tariq (1) reduced the margin.

The other teams participating in the tournament are Silver Shadows (Whites), Master Paints, Equestrian and WP.
