ISLAMABAD: Law Minister Dr Mohammad Farogh Naseem on Wednesday said the government was enacting laws to safeguard the rights of women.

Speaking as chief guest at a national dialogue on ‘Violence against Women: Legal Framework, Policy and Implementation’, Mr Naseem said the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government was committed to empowering women through introducing new laws, adding that the federal authorities and relevant departments were dedicated to empowering women by introducing women-centric legal guidelines.

He also mentioned that his office had drafted legislation in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Rights which would focus on crimes against girls and children. “The legislation needs to be enforced in letter and spirit at all levels,” he added.

Elaborating that his office was working on further improving legislation, the minister spoke about the new anti-rape legal guidelines, pointing out that in Pakistan, the sufferers (women) were blamed and questioned in cases of rape instead of the alleged rapists.
