ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Human Rights has decided to initiate training projects to improve inclusivity of differently-abled people in public and private schools of Islamabad.

The decision has been taken to improve capacity building of differently-abled children, an official of Ministry of Human Rights told this agency on Tuesday.

According to details, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the ministry and Directorate General of Special Education in collaboration with Private Education Institutions Registration Authority (Peira).

The official said that the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and Peira would identify mild to moderate differently-abled people in the federal capital. Heads/teachers of these schools would be imparted training on inclusive education. Consultative workshops and seminars would also be arranged for the purpose.

He said there were approximately 35,000 children with disabilities in Islamabad and there was a need to provide them with equal opportunities in public and private schools.

The objective of the programme is to bring differently-abled children in mainstream education and employment, he said, adding it was very important for them to attain education in normal schools as this would help them thrive in society.

Almost 5,000 differently-abled children would be enrolled in schools besides training will be provided to 250 teachers of regular schools in Islamabad. Some 10,000 parents would be given counselling and guidance.
