QUETTA: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai has said that Pakistan is a democratic country as it was created through a democratic struggle and it has to be run in a democratic manner.

Speaking at a rally organised by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) at Bacha Khan Chowk on Thursday against price hike in the country, he said the government would not be allowed to adopt some other way of governance, apart from democracy, for running the affairs of the country.

Mr Achakzai, who is also vice president of the PDM, said: “The country cannot be run without providing justice. The holy Quran commands to do justice and fairness.”

He said everyone knew what happened in Afghanistan and “the whole spectacle is for our region, so we have to be cautious”.

He said all kinds of weapons were used in Afghanistan except atom bomb. “If the world wants peace in the region, Afghanistan’s independence and sovereignty must be recognised,” he added.

He said the Durand Line was drawn by the British in 1893.

“The British did not impose any restriction on movement. The Durand Line is in its place, whether one likes it or not,” he said.

District emir of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Abdul Rehman Rafique, Maulvi Sarwar Musakhail, Maulana Khurshid Ahmed and Ghulam Nabi Marri of the Balochistan National Party also addressed the rally.
