KARACHI, Nov 13: After six week’s interval, cultural activities resumed on Sunday at Koocha-i-Saqafat, organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan in collaboration with the Sindh government, on M.R. Kiyani Road.

The weekly activity had been suspended after the devastating earthquake, which hit the northern parts of the country on Oct 8. Koochai-i-Saqafat was first organized in May after Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad gave the go-ahead to the Arts Council to hold the function. The governor had promised that the expenses of the event would be met by the Sindh government. However, the plan approved by the governor about the installation of fibreglass roof on M.R. Kayani Road is yet to materialize.

Although the crowds were thinner this Sunday as the activities were resumed after a long break and without any formal announcement in the media, traditional stalls displaying paintings, specimens of calligraphy, sculptures, handicrafts, and books were set up.

The chairman of the Arts Council’s Koocha-i-Saqafat committee, Saifur Rahman Grami, said necessary publicity was not made about the resumption of the programme. However, he said a mushaira was arranged in the evening on the devastating earthquake.
