FPSC reply sought on age limit

LAHORE, Jan 24: The Lahore High Court on Thursday called for a report and comments from the Federal Public Service Commission on a petition challenging the age reduction notification issued by it.

The petition filed by Qurban Sadiq and seven other employees of the Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited through their counsel submitted that the FPSC recently amended its rules and reduced the age limit for government employees to appear in the competition examination.

They submitted that according to the previous rules, the petitioners were entitled to appear in the Central Superior Services examination up to 35 years of age, while for other candidates the maximum age limit was 30 years. By virtue of the impugned notification, the age had been reduced for government employees from 35 to 30 years and for others from 30 to 28 years.

The petitioners prayed the court to declare the notification as illegal and without lawful authority.

REPLY SOUGHT: The high court called for a reply from the Sialkot SSP for Feb 11 on a petition seeking transfer of investigation outside the district.

The petition filed by Haji Abdul Majid through his counsel submitted that he along with his family shifted to Pasrur and started cultivating newly-purchased land. Some influentials of the area, including Afzal, Asmatullah and Fayyaz, started harassing him to grab his land.

He further submitted that the accused persons killed his son, Abdur Razzaq, and he lodged a case against them which was pending with the trial court.

He maintained that later the accused again started harassing his family to restrain them from pursuing the case. They also trespassed his house many a times. On Nov 11 last, the accused in police uniform along with SI Nasrullah, ASI Akhtar Ali and Muharrar Nawaz of the Pasrur Saddar police raided his house to murder his other son, Abdul Haq, but he was not present in the house.

He said the policemen also took away household articles on which he (petitioner) lodged a dacoity case against the accused persons, but DSP Muhammad Riaz, who was supporting the accused party, refused to arrest the culprits. He approached the Gujranwala SSP and the DIG concerned for the transfer of investigation of cases but to no avail.

He prayed the court to direct the Gujranwala division DIG to transfer the investigation outside the Sialkot district and hand it over to an honest police official as the present investigation officer and his colleagues were close relatives of the accused.

SI SUSPENDED: The LHC suspended from service a sub-inspector of the Sheikhupura’s Factory Area police for keeping two men in illegal custody.

The court also directed the Sheikhupura SSP to register a criminal case against SI Ishfaq and report to the court.

The habeas corpus petition filed by Nawabzada Masood Ahmad through his counsel submitted that his two servants, Amjad and Sajjad, were abducted by the police and detained in the police station without any reason.

A bailiff produced the detenus before the court after recovering them from police and informed neither any case was registered against them nor their arrest was mentioned in the record.

The counsel submitted that the detainees were arrested by the police on Jan 18.

The sub-inspector confessed to his mistake, and said the brother of the detainees was an absconder and wanted by the police. And he arrested them to investigate regarding their brother. — APP
