ABBOTTABAD: Former federal minister and former director-general (health) Prof Abdul Jamil Khan passed away at the Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, on Sunday evening.

The 91-year-old, popularly known as Prof AJ Khan, was hospitalised a few days ago due to illness.

His funeral prayer was held at the Frontier Medical College here on Monday, where Speaker of the provincial assembly Mushtaq Ghani, federal and provincial ministers, local politicians, doctors, medical students and people from other walks of life were in attendance. He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.

Prof AJ Khan founded three medical colleges in the country and headed the erstwhile Pakistan Medical and Dental Council as the president.

He was the first principal of Quetta’s Bolan Medical College and Abbottabad’s Ayub Medical College and Frontier Medical College. He also received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz award from the federal government.
