Pace of relief operation reviewed

RAWALPINDI, Nov 11: President Pervez Musharraf on Friday presided over a meeting to review the pace of relief operation in the earthquake-hit areas of the NWFP and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Salman Shah, NWFP Chief Minister Mohammad Akram Durrani, AJK President Sardar Mohammad Anwar Khan and Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat, the ministers of state for economic and youth affairs and officials concerned.

The participants were briefed on the forthcoming International Donors Conference to be held on November 19 in Islamabad.

The AJK president and prime minister and the NWFP chief minister gave inputs on the relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation process.

The Economic Affairs Division secretary and the Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority chairman delivered presentations on different options being considered for the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation in the quake-affected areas.

The participants expressed the resolve of the government to take all possible steps for the welfare of the people in the earthquake-affected areas by providing them with relief and ensuring that normalcy returned to their lives at the earliest.
