MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 11: AJK Inspector General Police Shahid Hasan distributed, on Thursday, cheques for Rs25,000 among dependents of 40 police personnel killed in Azad Kashmir.

The money was arranged in cooperation with two district Mirpur-based non-governmental organisations — Siyakh Welfare Association and Khadimabad – and distributed at a ceremony at Police Lines, SSP Mirpur Khalid Mahmood Chauhan told newsmen.

Mr Chauhan had persuaded the NGOs to offer financial assistance for families of low-paid employees of AJK police. He said the donors’ representatives had also travelled along with him from Mirpur to attend the ceremony.

He said the families of the deceased would also be given Rs100,000 each by the government.
