Water shortage hits Ghiljoo

Published January 25, 2002

KALAYA, Jan 24: The residents of Ghiljoo area of the Orakzai Agency are facing acute shortage of drinking water due to the persisting dry spell.

Locals of the upper tehsil area of Ghiljoo have started migrating to other areas in search of water as famine-like situation is prevailing in the upper parts of the Orakzai Agency.

Due to the continuing dry spell, natural springs and tube-wells in the agency have dried up and the people of the area have to bring water for daily use from far-off wells and springs.

The people, while welcoming the special package of incentives for the tribal areas recently announced by the government, have appealed to the NWFP governor to make special arrangements for the supply of drinking water to these areas.—Our Correspondent
