Lowari Top Road opens for traffic

CHITRAL, Jan 24: The Lowari Top road connecting Chitral with the rest of the country has been opened for all kinds of traffic.

Hundreds of passengers had been trapped on both sides of Lowari Top, which was re-opened after eight days of closure due to heavy snowfall. The local people, who had almost run out of daily use items, heaved a sigh of relief as the only road link between Chitral district and the rest of the country was re-opened.

POSTAL SYSTEM:The postal system in the district is on the verge of collapse as postal bags are not transported to Chitral by PIA flights due to the rush of passengers.

The postal bags are transported to and from Chitral by PIA flights. The PIA cargo staff at Peshawar airport neglect the postal bags and give priority to the baggage of passengers.

It is a common phenomenon at Peshawar airport that the passengers grease the palms of porters who forward their baggage for loading in the aircraft.

No postal bag has been consigned to Chitral for the last two weeks as a result of which the postal system has been largely disturbed. The students are the worst affected who mostly miss their chances of examination due late delivery of mail.

PROBLEMS:District Nazim of Chitral Shahzada Mohyuddin has urged government servants to remain in close contact with the public to ascertain their problems and solve the same on priority basis.

Speaking to district officers here on Wednesday, he said they should sincerely work for making the new system a success which had been designed to benefit the hitherto neglected masses.

He also issued directions for the early electrification of villages in the upper parts of Chitral.

The District Nazim urged the officers to strictly act upon the merit policy and warned that no leniency would be shown to those found guilty of violating the merit policy.
