SAHIWAL, Nov 11: District and Sessions Judge Dr Riaz Mahmood has ordered exhumation of the body of sub-accountant Muhammad Iqbal of the district accounts office.
Judicial Magistrate Chaudhry Munir Husain Gill will supervise the postmortem.
Reports said Muhammad Iqbal was shot at and injured by unknown motorcyclists when he was walking towards his office to resume duty on Oct 28 last. He was shifted to the General Hospital, Lahore, where he lost battle against death after 10 days.
He was laid to rest on Nov 7 without conducting his postmortem at Chak 50/5-L. The district accounts office staff, however, raised hue and cry and sought the court help for exhumation of the body and postmortem.
After the decision, the accounts office staff ended its strike.
Strict security arrangements have been made at the office, but none of the officials is ready to take charge of the assignment handed over to the deceased owing to its sensitive nature.
Iqbal was deputed on the “double lock system” where the record of billions of rupees and the recent local election votes and sealed ballet papers were kept.
Meanwhile, the police have failed to find any clue to the killers.
BODY RECOVERED: The body of a youth was recovered by the Fateh Sher police from a minor near Chak 826/R. A case has been registered.
