KARACHI: Speakers at a programme on Tuesday discussed the transition of academic curriculum, industrial activities and regulatory and community pharmacy.

The discussion was part of a day-long conference titled ‘Pharmacy: Always Trusted For Your Health’ organised by the Karachi University Pharmacy Science Club to celebrate the World Pharmacists Day at the HEJ Auditorium of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) on Tuesday.

The speakers discussed how things had changed over time and proposed further improvements. Industry-academia relation was also highlighted regarding teaching, research and entrepreneurship.

On the occasion, the faculty of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences also signed and renewed 12 different memorandums of understanding with renowned hospitals and community pharmacies to accommodate the faculty and students for on-ground professional training.

The panellists included Rahila Ikram, National Institute of Child Health’s (NICH) pharmacist Saira Erum Eijaz, Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh (Karachi) Director Adnan Rizvi and others.

Speaking at the event, acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi stressed the need for modernising the education system and described the knowledge-based economy as essential for the country’s development.

“We cannot achieve our desired goals without modernising the existing education system. With the promotion of research culture in varsities, we can provide better, reliable, cheaper, and durable solutions to industries which in return will help in the country’s development,” he said.
