KARACHI, Nov 11: The Diabetes Association of Pakistan and the World Collaborating Centre have chalked out an elaborate programme to commemorate the World Diabetes Day on Nov 13.

The event with the theme “Diabetes and Foot Care” holds immense relevance to Pakistan, where the incidence of diabetes is increasing and so are its complications affecting varied organs of human body.

But, proper care of foot remains the most ignored aspect on part of people with diabetics.

Diabetic foot, a serious complication due to possibility of amputation, makes necessary for diabetic population as well as their respective doctors to ensure prevention and proper management.

According to the Diabetic Association of Pakistan, three to four per cent of the total diabetics in Pakistan come across this complication and as the duration of diabetes increases the chances of neuropathy also increases.

To address the situation and create public awareness, a scientific session and an open session for people with diabetes have been arranged.

Scientific session of the day-long event is being addressed by Dr Abdul Basit, Prof Murad Moosa Khan and Prof A. Samad Shera. A panel of diabetologists will respond to queries raised by the audience on the occasion. —APP
