LAHORE: Some PPP leaders who were given new responsibilities by the central leadership just a day back have expressed their reservations about their new offices.

A notification issued from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s secretariat on Saturday had announced the appointment of Rana Farooq as senior vice president of central Punjab, Samina Pagganwala as deputy general secretary and Faisal Mir as deputy information secretary. It also declared nomination of Chaudhry Aslam Gill as president of the PPP Lahore urban division chapter and Israrul Haq Butt as vice president.

Rana Farooq, ex-MNA from Faisalabad, was quoted by a close aide as complaining that he had been demoted instead of being promoted in view of his services for the party. He announced talking to the party leadership in this respect.

Mr Farooq is a former Faisalabad division president.

Mr Butt claimed that he had been nominated to the provincial chapter and informed of it by telephone but the notification ‘erroneously’ mentioned him as Lahore chapter VP.

Meanwhile, Mr Gill said he would organise and mobilise the party at the grassroots level in the Punjab capital to give a tough time to the PML-N in the next general election.
