GUJRANWALA, Nov 10: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed its concern over the rising incidence of robberies in the district. Speaking at a meeting held here on Thursday, PMA president Dr Zahid Mahmood Mian said clinics and houses of as many as seven doctors had been looted during the last two months, but the police could not arrest the robbers.
He said some outlaws looted the clinics of gynaecologist Dr Adila Butt and her husband Dr Atiq on Thursday night and took away cash and jewellery from patients as well. He said the dacoits made off with cash and valuables from the houses and clinics of former PMA secretary-general Dr Shahid Munir Khawaja, senior medical officer Dr Farrukh Humayun of Ghakkhar Town, Dr Arshed Javed Sheikh, Dr Mushtaq, Dr Zahid Khawaja and Dr Irshadullah Khan during the last two months.
He said people were feeling insecure while the police were claiming good performance.
PMA former presidents Dr Ishtiaq Safdar Tarar, Dr Sajjad Dhariwal, Dr Anwer Aman and Dr Nazish Amin were also present in the meeting.
POLICE FAILURE: Police have failed to recover former district council member Syeda Rifat Berjis who had allegedly been abducted by her business partners over a money dispute a week ago from Raja Sadhoki village.
Her mother have urged the DIG and DPO to get her daughter recovered immediately.
Reports said Rifat Berjis had a business partnership with Rana Khalid, Rana Ghulam Mustafa and Rana Sultan. When she asked them to cancel the partnership and return her the amount, they allegedly kidnapped her.
ROAD BLOCKADE: Scores of people blocked the GT Road and smashed window panes of a bus after it crushed to death a youth, Maqsood Ahmad, near Chand da Qila Bypass Intersection on Thursday.
However, the police reached the spot and assured the protesters of early arrest of the bus driver. Resultantly, the protesters dispersed.
PROBE BEGINS: The National Accountability Bureau has started an inquiry into the Rs15 million scam and summoned ex-city nazim Babu Javid Ahmad.
Reports said some citizens, including ex-councillors, had complained to NAB that Babu Javid had awarded a property transfer contract in violation of the law, causing a loss of Rs15 million to the tehsil council.
When contacted, the former nazim said allegations against him were baseless and he had awarded the contract in accordance with the law.
