KHOI RATTA, Nov 10: AJK Law Minister Raja Nisar Ahmed Khan has said that Rs30 billion is required to provide temporary dwellings to quake-hit people in Azad Kashmir.
He said in a statement that the federal government had announced an allocation of Rs20 billion for rehabilitation of the affected people and relief work was under way in the quake-hit areas.
He said that political, religious and social organizations and Kashmiris living abroad were playing a pivotal role in the rehabilitation process.
Mr Khan said that the next AJK cabinet meeting would review work on development projects in Azad Kashmir and consider launching new projects.
PPP LEADER: Azad Kashmir People’s Party Parliamentarians chief Mohammad Ishaq Zafar has stressed the need for more funds for the quake-affected areas from the international community.
Talking to journalists at his residence in Bani Hafiz, he said that the government had no formal policy to handle the crisis and the policy under which financial compensation was being given to the affected people and their family members was a joke with them.
“No government has been left in Azad Kashmir as it has turned into a graveyard since the October 8 earthquake,” the PPP leader said.
He said that President Musharraf must not leave the affected people to the AJK leaders and pointed out that some politicians were visiting the quake-hit people for the sake of photo sessions.
Mr Zafar said that the Kashmiri nation was thankful to the world community and appealed to the international community for more assistance to the affected people as still a lot was to be done for their rehabilitation. —Online
