Light rain turns Karachi weather pleasant

KARACHI: Weather in the city is expected to be fair/partly cloudy with some areas in Karachi as well as Thatta receiving light rain/drizzle on Sunday under the influence of receding ‘severe cyclonic storm Shaheen’, the meteorological department stated on Saturday.

Fishermen, it said, can resume their activities from Sunday afternoon.

The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to range between 26 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the department recorded 2mm rainfall in Gulshan-i-Hadeed, 1mm in Quaidabad, 4mm in PAF Faisal Base and 1.6mm in the area of Jinnah Terminal in two spells.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recor­ded were 31.5 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius with 75 per cent and 92 per cent relative humidity, respectively.

According to the department’s advisory released at 6.41pm, the severe cyclonic storm “Shaheen” over northwest Arabian Sea moved west-northwestward during the past 12 hours with a speed of 15km/hr.

“It now lies at a distance of about 250km southwest of Gwadar, 480km southwest of Ormara, 730 km west-southwest of Karachi and 225km east of Muscat (Oman). Estimated maximum sustained surface wind is 115-125km/hr with sea condition very rough/high around the system centre.”
