GUJRANWALA, Nov 9: Legs of at least 16 quake victims have so far been amputated at the CMH in Gujranwala while 133 patients have been discharged after treatment. This was stated by CMH surgical ward incharge Dr Col Liaquat while talking to reporters here on Wednesday.
He pointed out that three minor children and five elderly men and women were deprived of their legs. He said that their legs were amputated to save their lives.
Dr Liaquat said that most of quake victims admitted to the CMH had been discharged after their complete recovery from multiple wounds.
Meanwhile, DHQ Hospital deputy medical superintendent Dr Anwer Aman, who came back from Balakot, revealed that better medical facilities were being provided to quake victims there.
While an orthopaedic of Lahore has so far conducted around 700 operations within a month.
He said that medical teams of the UAE, China, France and other countries were also providing treatment facilities to quake victims.
He said that quake survivors had become psychological patients after deaths of their family members and they could not sleep at night.
INJURED: Four members of a family were shot at and injured by a motorcycle-rickshaw driver over a minor issue at the General Bus Stand on Wednesday.
Reports said a stray dog bit Amjad and his uncle, Muhammad Younis, asked a three-wheeler’s driver to carry them to the District Headquarters Hospital but he refused to do so. This led to an argument after which Younis beat up driver Shahbaz.
A few minutes later, Shahbaz brought pistol and shot at the family, injuring Amjad, Younis, Saleem and Ashraf. They were taken to the Civil Hospital in critical condition.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
ACQUITTED: A local court on Wednesday acquitted four accused, including two women, of their involvement in cases registered under the Hudood Ordinance.
According to the prosecution, Muhammad Asif, a resident of Jandiala Baghwala village, tried to sexually assault a woman on Aug 24 this year.
In another case, Muhammad Mushtaq and two women — Muhammad Bibi and Surraya Bibi — of Bharoki village, abducted a girl on May 20 this year.
The prosecution could not establish the charges in both cases.
INJURED: Gujranwala Electric Power Company Chief Executive Brig Saifullah Khalid on Wednesday inquired after the injured assistant lineman at the Mayo Hospital and gave him Rs30,000 for his treatment.
According to reports, Muhammad Iqbal had suffered an electric shock after which he fell from a poll and was injured a few days ago.
ELECTROCUTION: A tailor was electrocuted at his shop in Eminabad on Wednesday.
According to reports reaching here, Abdul Salaam, the father of seven, was sewing clothes by a machine being run by an electric motor at his shop.
All of a sudden he received an electric shock and fainted.
He was taken to the DHQ hospital where he breathed his last.
