QUETTA, Nov 9: Over 100 people attacked an iron exploration site in Dilband area of Mastung district with bombs and rockets on Monday night, destroying machinery worth millions of rupees of the Bolan Mining Enterprise, a joint venture of the Pakistan Petroleum Limited and the Balochistan government.

“The machinery destroyed was worth Rs50 million to Rs60 million,” an official said on Wednesday.

The attackers encircled the camp of the Bolan Mining Enterprise, overpowered six guards and snatched their weapons before hurling bombs and firing rockets.

All the equipment at the site, including power generators and the crushing plant, were destroyed.

Sources said the assailants also fired rockets at the residential cabins of the staff. Most of the staff were on Eid holidays.

The assailants went towards the nearby mountains after the attack.

A man claiming to be spokesman of the Baloch Liberation Army informed media representatives over satellite phone that the BLA had carried out the attack.
