ISLAMABAD: Six people lost their lives to Covid-19 in Islamabad and Rawalpindi districts on Tuesday. However, downward trend in single-day cases and the infection rate continued in the capital, with 106 testing positive at a ratio of 2.4pc.

The deceased were identified as Sultana Jan, 70, resident of Shakriyal, who was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Sept 20, Nasreen Akhter, 52, resident of Kahuta, who was shifted to Shifa International Hospital on Sept 20, Syeda Munaza, 74, resident of Satellite Town, admitted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Sept 20 and Jahangir Karim, 69, from Jhanda Chichi, who came to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Sept 20.

According to officials of the capital administration, two female patients in the age group of 50-79 passed away. One of the deceased lived in Kurri while the address of the other was not known.

Teams of the capital administration inspected 162 shops and seven were sealed for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs). Fines amounting to Rs6,500 were imposed on owners of some. Likewise, 66 restaurants were inspected out of which five were sealed and fines amounting to Rs4,500 were imposed on the owners.

On Tuesday, 106 cases surfaced in the capital compared to 128, 191 and 203 reported on Monday, Sunday and Saturday, respectively, whereas during the last 24 hours 4,408 tests were conducted.

The officials added that 32 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 17 in 20-29, 16 in 40-49, 11 in 50-59, nine in 0-9, eight each in 10-19 and 60-69, four in 70-79 and one in 80 and above.

Likewise, eight cases were reported from Tarlai, followed by seven from I-8, four each from Lohi Bher, Bhara Kahu, Rawat, G-11 and I-10, three each from G-9, Chak Shahzad, F-11, Sohan and Alipur, two each from G-10, E-11, I-9, F-10, Koral, G-5 and Rawal Town and one each from G-6, G-13, Kurri, B-17, I-14, Jhangi Syedan, Phulgran and Top City.

There are 2,503 active cases in the capital and out of which 131 are admitted to hospitals while the rest are quarantined in their houses.

Meanwhile, 61 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in Rawalpindi district whereas 139 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery during the last 24 hours.

As per data shared by the District Health Authority, positivity ratio in the district was recorded at 4.2pc. A total of 1,450 samples were collected out of which 1,389 tested negative.

Currently, there are 988 active patients in the district, of whom 116 are in hospitals including 48 who arrived from other districts and 872 patients are home isolated.

As many as 11 patients have been admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 39 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 42 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, four in District Headquarters Hospital, 14 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, four in Bilal Hospital, one patient each in Hearts International Hospital and Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Hospital.
