NAWABSHAH, Nov 8: A man was killed and a woman was injured on the pretext of karo-kari in the Badaruddin Zardari village of the Nawabshah taluka on Tuesday. According to reports reaching here, Manthar Machhi alias Manu shot dead his friend Habibullah Zardari, 22, in his house in the taluka police station area.
The man later came to his house and fired on his sister, Rasheeda, 20.
She was injured seriously.
Manthar Machhi later surrendered before the Qazi Ahmed police from where he was handed over to the taluka police.
The injured woman was admitted to the People’s Medical College hospital.
Khan Mohammad Zardari, uncle of the deceased, lodged an FIR under section 302 QSS, 324 at the taluka police station stating that Manthar and Habibullah were friends.
He said that Habibullah had stopped Manthar several times to quit bad friends’ company due to which an enmity cropped and Manthar killed his friend.
PROTEST: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz staged a demonstration outside the press club on Tuesday in protest against the registration of false FIRs against JSQM activists in Thatta.
They demanded that police officials involved in torturing a JSQM worker in the 68-Mori should be arrested.
Protesters were led by JSQM district president Hashim Leghari, general secretary Sarwar Aarejo and Dr Sham.
They said that police officials had tortured JSQM activist Sohrab Shubani in 68-Mori Nawabshah but so far they were not arrested.
They observed a token hunger strike opposite the press club.
PROTEST: Hundreds of growers of Manharo minor, Dad irrigation division, staged a demonstration outside the press club against shortage of irrigation water here on Tuesday.
Protesters including Iqbal Dahri, Fatehuddin, Rafiq Awan, Zafar Iqbal Mughal, Mohammad Ishaque, Aachar Dahri and Raja Ghulam Murtaza blocked the press club road.
They alleged that irrigation officials of the Dad irrigation division were selling water to influential landlords.
They said that nine watercourses rendered completely dried up and 8,000 acres of land had been affected due to shortage.
They said that their families were starving as there was no crop due to water shortage.
They demanded that the Sindh irrigation minister should take action against corrupt officials of the irrigation department and provide them their due share of water.
