DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 8: Local political scene after the district and tehsil nazim elections may change ahead of the naib nazim elections. There are chances that sons of rival Leghari and Khosa chiefs may reach some understanding while newly-elected District Nazim Maqsood Khan Leghari faces split in his group.

Maqsood’s main ally Dost Muhammad Khosa, son of Khosa tribal chief Zulfiqar Khan Khosa who could not win the tehsil nazim slot is now demanding district naib nazimship in violation of the earlier understanding that the Taunsvi camp in Maqsood group would get the office.

Seeing the split, rival Jamal Leghari declared his support for Dost Muhammad Khosa which created mistrust between the Khosas and their ally Maqsood Leghari.

Sources claim that two rival camps met in Houbara Foundation tents set up in the nearby desert during Ramazan where Jamal Khan Leghari, who lost the district nazim election to Maqsood, extended support to Dost Mohammed Khosa for the naib district nazim office.

Former district nazim Jamal Leghari’s group won tehsil nazim offices of Dera Ghazi Khan and Taunsa Sharif. In Dera, newly-elected tehsil nazim, industrialist Mehmood Qadir Leghari who is not from the chief family and belongs to middle class Baloch family, is reluctant to accept Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti as his deputy (tehsil naib nazim). Bhatti is a close friend of Jamal Leghari.

In Taunsa, Jamal Leghari faces crisis of choice among a large number of aspirants from his alliance.

Maqsood Ahmad Leghari and his ally Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa meanwhile strongly deny any split in the alliance.

DIRECTIVE: The Punjab livestock and dairy director-general has ordered all district officers to remain vigilant regarding occurrence of any disease among chickens and send a weekly report to the Poultry Research Institute, Rawalpindi.
