KARACHI, Nov 8: The Sindh Industries Minister, Adil Siddiqi, has asked the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (Sessi) to complete those projects and schemes which relate to the welfare of the workers.

Presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday to review the Sessi’s activities, the minister pointed out that the social security scheme was launched to provide medical care and cash benefits to a class which was deprived of such facilities.

Therefore, he emphasized that every employee of the institution should keep this objective in his mind and should fulfil his obligations accordingly.

“No negligence will be tolerated especially on the medical side” he added.

Pointing out that a big amount of Rs604.034 million was being spent on the provision of medical care to the workers and their dependents during the current year, the minister directed that all the Sessi medical centres should be equipped according to the day-to-day requirements.

Earlier Sessi Commissioner R.B. Phulpoto informed that a CT scan machine costing Rs40 million had been provided at the S.S. Valika Hospital while the construction of this department had been completed at a cost of Rs3.12 million.

He said that the Dhabeji Medical Centre providing X-ray and lab facilities had also been established at a cost of Rs1 million besides the establishment of a 20-bed ward along with X-ray, laboratory and labour room at the Nooriabad Medical Centre at a cost of Rs0.64 million.

Mr Siddiqi was also informed about the construction of a neurology department at the K.V. SITE Hospital in collaboration with the Sindh Workers Welfare Board,

10-bed ward and labour room at the Kotri hospital at a cost of Rs2.80 million, additional floor at the Sessi head office at a cost of Rs7.60 million and construction of 10-bed ward at a cost of Rs1.670 million at the Poly Clinic, Sukkar where facilities of X-ray, laboratory, maternity home, ECG, ultrasound would also be available.
