KARACHI, Nov 8: A 2km long water pipeline will be laid under the sea water to provide potable water to the residents of the Keamari Town. According to Keamari Town Nazim Humayum Khan the pipeline will be laid between the main pipeline at Mai Kolachi and Keamari.
He said that the residents of Bhudd village, Katchi Parah, Umer Khan Road, Subhanullah Road and Gulshan Sikankarabad of the Keamari Town will benefit from the project in question.
To examine the project, the town nazim inspected the site for laying the pipe line beneath the sea water in a launch.
He said that water would be stored in an underground tank built in the MAMA School from where water would be supplied to the residents.
The town nazim stressed the need for an early completion of the said project, added saying that no leniency in this regard would be tolerated.
Meanwhile, North Nazimabad Town Nazim Mumtaz Hameed has proposed construction of a flyover at the Nagan Chowrangi to avoid traffic hazards and loss of lives in roads accidents.
A statement issued here on Tuesday said, that the town nazim proposed the project in a meeting with the EDO Transport and Communication, Malik Zaheerul Islam, to discuss the solution of traffic problems at the Nagan Chowrangi.
EDO Zaheerul Islam assured the nazim to conduct the survey of the proposed site at the earliest.
During the meeting the town nazim also expressed hope that the construction work on the flyover project would commence soon.
Gulberg Town nazim said that the establishment of new libraries and promotion and patronizing of the existing ones was the top priority of the current leadership of the city government.
He said this during a surprise visit to the Mansoora Library in Block 14 and Col. Mohammad Khan Library in Block 10 of the Gulberg Town on Tuesday.
The town nazim expressed his concern over the lack of support to the libraries by both the public and private sectors in the past.
He said that under the SLGO the promotion and development of libraries was the responsibility of the UCs, but the town administration would take steps to modernize these libraries.
The town nazim said that in this regard the town administration would utilize its own resources, besides seeking help from the literary circles.
He asked the concerned officials to ensure better lighting arrangements in the libraries, besides provision of adequate furniture, posting of staff, purchase of books and periodicals and arranging book exhibitions.
The town nazim said that proper attendance of staff in libraries should be ensured and arrangements be made for their proper functioning during the working hours to facilitate readers.—APP/PPI
