KARACHI, Nov 8: Continuing with its earthquake relief operation, PIA lifted 1,467 tons of relief supplies from its domestic and international networks till date, exactly one month since the disaster hit Azad Kashmir, Northern Areas and the NWFP.

PIA carried 517 tons of relief goods by its international scheduled flights and 436 tons by international chartered flights on the global network. It transported 400 tons by its domestic scheduled flights, besides 114 tons of relief supplies on international transit which were lifted from Karachi on domestic chartered flights.

Since the operation has entered in rehabilitation phase, PIA will now transport bulk cargo by dedicated chartered flights. However, nearly 20 stations in PIA’s global network have relief supplies awaiting transportation.

It is estimated that the total of the relief supplies airlifted by PIA till the completion of the relief operation would come around 4,000 tons.—APP
