KARACHI: News of the death of a Pakistani fisherman locked up in India on the charge of violating Indian waters while fishing reached Karachi on Monday.

According to the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS), Pakistani fisherman Ameer Hamza, son of Jafar Ahmed, was a victim of human rights violations by the Indian jail staff. He succumbed to constant ill treatment by them.

The deceased is said to be a resident of Ali Akbar Shah Goth in Korangi. He was on board the fishing boat Al-Najam when he was arrested by Indian forces at sea on November 30, 2017.

The 40-year-old fisherman was the father of two children. An atmosphere of gloom fell over his home as soon as the news of his death reached his family there.
