HYDERABAD: An unpleasant incident was reported in ward-8 of Cantonment Board Hyderabad (CBH), involving supporters of Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan after the latter staged a rally in a Jinnah colony locality of the ward to celebrate their victory in CBH polls on Sunday night.

Reports said that PPP’s supporters claimed that MQM-P supporters torn off their party’s posters in the area during a rally while the MQM-P claimed that PPP supporters had pelted the MQM-P candidate with stones, who won ward-8.

An altercation took place between the supporters of the two parties.

Latifabad A-section police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

SHO Imran Rasheed confirmed that it was a minor incident and things had been controlled.

He said that both parties made claims and counterclaims about the incident.

‘MQM-P broke own record’

Deputy convenor of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that the MQM-P has broken its own record of seats in Cantonment Board Hyderabad (CBH) elections by winning one more seat on Sunday.

He congratulated party workers for showing trust in the party.

He claimed that MQM breakaway factions were supported financially and attempts were made to thrust a traditional rival of the party on the MQM-P.

He said the MQM-P won seven out of 10 wards of CBH while it had won six wards in 2015 polls of the board.

He was speaking at a press conference at local headquarters of the party late on Sunday night held to announce that MQM-P had won seven out of 10 wards of the CBH in Sunday’s polls.

He said that negative propaganda was also launched against MQM-P by its traditional rivals.

He saluted people of Hyderabad for showing their trust in the MQM-P. He said that people of Hyderabad

had shown their confidence in the MQM-P and promised that the party would not betray them or breach their trust.

He said that these results proved that people of this city trusted the party the way they did on day one.

He also felicitated party workers on their hard work during election campaign of CBH.
