MIRPURKHAS, Nov 7: Subscribers of the PTCL wireless telephone service held a protest demonstration on the M. A. Jinnah Road on Monday against suspension of the service since Nov 3.

The service remained closed owing to some technical fault, causing difficulties to people.

The wireless phone service in Mirpurkhas had been launched on Oct 31 but it has remained suspended since Nov 3 and is yet to be restored.

The protesters told journalists that they had got telephone connections to greet their family members and friends on Eid but they were facing hardships due to failure of the service.

They demanded that the federal communication and information and technology minister and other authorities should order an inquiry into the matter.

An official of a private company which is selling wireless phone connections told Dawn that due to some fault, the service had remained closed and it would be restored in few days.

Our Khairpur Correspondent adds: A group of customers of PTCL wireless phones, landlines and calling cards held a protest meeting under the chairmanship of Syed Shakir Ali Shah at his residence here on Monday.

The meeting said the PTCL did not announce any package on Eid. It said that during Eid days, many PTCL lines went out of order. It said complaints were also made to PTCL officials but the faults were not removed.

The meeting demanded that PTCL authorities should take notice of the matter.
