KARACHI, Nov 7: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Monday strongly condemned the decision to disqualify Al-Khidmat nazims of Gulshan Town union councils, and termed it ‘suppression of people’s opinion’.

MMA legislators Nasarullah Shaji, Hameedullah Khan and Younus Barai said in a statement that after several months now, post-poll rigging and suppression of people’s opinion were continuing. They warned that such illegal and undemocratic acts would create confusion and chaos among people for which only the government would be held responsible.

They wondered that those candidates who had lost by a margin of thousands of votes had been declared elected.

They claimed that the Election Commission had failed to conduct free and fair elections.

In a separate statement, MMA members of the National Assembly have criticized the government for its failure in providing relief to quake-affected people.

MNAs Mohammad Hussain Mehanti, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Mohammad Laeeq Khan said that the government had failed to chalk out any comprehensive programme for them.
