KARACHI, Nov 7: The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology (FUUAST) will introduce four-year (BS degree) programmes in the subjects of Computer Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics (electronics and telecommunication) and Media Science in the 2006 academic session, it was learnt officially.

A spokesman for the varsity said that the five new courses in question were in line with the new schemes given by the Higher Education Commission and those would be equivalent to the MSC degree of the old system.

Process of admissions to 55 programmes of two, three and four years’ durations in the faculties of science, arts and business administration and commerce at the varsity has begun with the sale of admission forms and brochures at the NBP, Urdu University branch, and ABL, Baba-i-Urdu Road branch.

The last date for the issuance and acceptance of admission forms has been fixed as Nov 19.

The university is also offering admissions to five-year law education programme, BA LLB for the new session, added the spokesman.

Other 49 programmes wherein admissions would be given are: Pharmacy (D Pharm); BSc (Honours) in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Statistics, Geology, Geography, Botany, Zoology; BA (Honours) in Mass Communication, Education, Psychology, Economics, English, International Relations, Urdu (Special Education and Political Science), Geography, Islamic History, Islamic Studies, General History, Social Work and Sindhi; MSc in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Geology, Zoology, Geography, Botany and Statistics; MA in Mass Communication, Education, Economics, Psychology, International Relations, English, Urdu, Political Science, Islamic Studies and Islamic History; BCom (hons), MCom, BBA and MBA.
