ISLAMABAD: The joint action committee of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has demanded demarcation of the university land and removal of encroachments from it.

The committee, which comprises alumni association, academic staff association and employees, in a press release said 1,709 acres, four kanals and 12 marlas, was acquired by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in 1967-72 for the university.

The land was allotted by the CDA to the university after full payment, the committee claimed, adding but possession of vacant land was not given and on-ground demarcation not conducted.

Hence, the university has inherited a number of illegal occupants, including nine villages spreading over 298 acres on the campus.

Moreover, as per a Survey of Pakistan report 2017, on the ground there was a deficiency of 152 acres in the university land. Still there is a total shortfall of 298+152 acres.

“The university has requested the CDA and local administration a number of times for on-ground demarcation, provision of vacant possession of the university land and for evacuation of all illegal occupants/encroachers and completion of its deficient land but no fruitful action has been taken so for,” said the press release.

It requested the concerned authorities to direct the quarters concerned to retrieve the occupied/encroached land (298 acres) and direct the CDA to complete the deficiency of 152 acres in the allotted land of the university.
