Swing claims feature event

LAHORE, Nov 6: Representing the combination of owner Mian Maahir Ahmad and jockey Shahid Rehman fancied Swing, outclassed his seven rivals to win the Mianwali Cup, during the 10th Lahore Winter Meeting in floodlights at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Trained by A. B. Malik the colt beat bay colt Unter by six lengths. Silver Queen finished third about two lengths further behind while Baker’s Gal completed the frame, way behind among eight starters.

The winner clocked one minute two second over 1000m in a handy position to justify his being the worthy son of Stranger In Paradise out-of- Rosina Folly.

This was the feature and fifth race of the day, a class V handicap race.

The main supporting and sixth event, the Mianwali Plate class V division II handicap race was won by a long shot Well Minister, who beat King Sound by two lengths leading all the way home. Mera Chandiwala finished third edging out All At Sea near the finishing post.

Interestingly Well Minister ran fourth almost in the same company over 1200m last Sunday but he performed exceptionally well in today’s races. Either of the two, his trainer Rashid Latif or the owner Mian Mohammad Ashraf, seems to be magicians, who can do wonders.

Owner Mian Maahir Ahmad and trainer A. B. Malik won the limelight of the day’s racing when they shared a brace of winners in Scooby and Swing, winning the third and fifth race.

Scooby was piloted by jockey M. Hanif in a runaway style.

Rank outsider bay horse Murad Love, caused the biggest upset of the day when he won the third race under apprentice rider Shah Nawaz.

He beat Ministry by a head. Jago and Well Minister were the other long shots to win a card of six events.
