LAHORE, Nov 6: PML President Shujaat Husain said here on Sunday that the office-bearers and workers of the party were playing a commendable role in relief and rehabilitation activities in quake-hit areas.

He was presiding over a meeting of the PML at his residence which reviewed the relief activities, says a handout issued here.

Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, PML Secretary-General Mushahid Husain and Punjab office-bearers of the party attended the meeting.

Shujaat Husain said by celebrating Eid with the earthquake victims, the party workers had proved that they were with their brethren in the hour of trial.

He said the government was providing all-out resources for the assistance of the affected people and the workers were continuously sending relief to the far-flung affected areas. He urged the need for further accelerating the relief work.

Pervaiz Elahi said the provincial government had taken effective measures for permanent rehabilitation of the calamity-hit people and assistance was being given to them.

MAQBOOL VISITS: People celebrated the Eidul Fitr with religious fervour but with an overall simplicity, quietly showing solidarity with the quake victims.

People offered Eid prayers in mosques and at open places where ulema and prayer leaders offered special prayers for the solidarity of the country and for the quake affectees. They urged the people to continue supporting their brethren in this hour of trial.

The main congregation was held at the Badshahi Mosque where Governor Khalid Maqbool and some senior government officials also offered their prayers.

The governor also visited the Services Hospital to present gifts to the injured from the affected areas.

A large number of people avoided wearing new clothes. And those who did so observed simplicity in view of the tragedy unleashed in Azad Kashmir and the NWFP.
