ISLAMABAD: An increase was seen in the number of Covid-19 cases reported on a single day as 394 people contracted the virus in the capital whereas two people lost their lives to the disease in Rawalpindi district.

Positivity ratio in the capital increased to 7pc from 5.3pc reported on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Bazeer, 75, who was shifted to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) and Taj Begum, 83, who breathed her last in Fauji Foundation Hospital.

Officials of the capital administration said 253 cases were reported on Wednesday.

During the last 24 hours 5,611 tests were conducted, they said, adding out of the total 223 men and 171 women were tested positive.

The officials said 73 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 69 each in 20-29 and 40-49, 50 in 0-9, 45 in 50-59, 40 in 10-19, 28 in 60-69, 14 in 70-79 five in 80 and above. Addresses of one case is not known.

Furthermore,364 people were diagnosed with the disease in Rawalpindi district and the positivity ratio was 9.3pc.

There are 2,415 active patients in the district; as many as 364 are in hospitals including 20 who arrived from other districts and 2,051 patients are home isolated.

As many as 108 patients are from cantonment areas, 87 from Potohar Town, 60 from Rawal Town, 36 from Gujar Khan, 34 from Taxila, 13 from Kahuta, 13 from Kallar Syedan, two from Kotli Sattian, two from Murree, two from Islamabad, four from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one patient each from Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum.

As many as 25 patients are admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 31 at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 90 patients at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, one at District Headquarters Hospital, 39 at Fauji Foundation Hospital, seven patients at Bilal Hospital, four at Hearts International Hospital, two at Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Hospital and one at Attock Hospital Rawalpindi.

There are 10 patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 97 are on oxygen support and 93 are stable.
