BALAKOT, Nov 6: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and the First Lady met on Eidul Fitr a newly-wed couple in the earthquake-wrecked town, whose marriage a few days back had kindled hopes for the future among the local people.

The president presented gifts to them and Sehba Musharraf a set of gold ornaments to the bride as they expressed the entire nation’s support for people affected by the massive October 8 earthquake that killed more than 73,000 people.

The newly married couple thanked the President and the First Lady for their gesture. The residents of the once thriving mountainous town of NWFP, also appreciated the gesture, as the president assured them of untiring efforts to restore normal life in the quake-ruined areas.

During the visit, President Musharraf also announced Rs2,000 each as Eidi for students of the school established by Pakistan Army.—APP
