LAHORE: Two cup races will be the highlight of a small five-event card drawn for the 11th day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The owners and trainers in spite of the extreme muggy and sizzling hot weather are entering their horses to run in races to keep wheels of equine sport moving in the provincial metropolis. They are supporting LRC chairman Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, who believes that races should continue in all conditions when an all-weather facility under lights is available. Similar is the view of all stake-holders and lovers of the sports, who consider races as an entertainment. Makhdum along with at least four stewards is always present to see the programme go through..
The feature event, the Rim Jhim Cup, a Class VII Division I (Class VI included) to be contested over a sprinting distance of 1,000 metres has seven runners.
Although the handicapper has placed in weight almost all runners on a chance but the real contest should be between Nayel, Remember Me and trainer Aleemuddin’s choice from his duo. They look real contenders to fight for the honours..
The supporting cup event, the Rainbow Cup, a class VII division v handicap race has a large field of eleven runners. It looks an open affair. The first race will be held at 5:30pm.
