KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in the Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday, police said.
They added that two gunmen riding a motorbike were allegedly looting citizens in Mehran Town, Sector 6-F, when a patrolling police party arrived there. On seeing the police, the suspected robbers resorted to firing and after an exchange of fire, one suspect was killed while his accomplice had escaped.
The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.
The police claimed to have found a TT pistol and a motorbike in his custody, which was stolen in the city.

Motorway police present guard of honour to doctors, paramedical staff
The Sukkan police said that the body of the man identified as Hazrat Mohammed was found in Rehri Goth.
The body bore injury marks caused by a knife.
The corpse was shifted to the JPMC to fulfil legal formalities. The motive for the killing could not be ascertained immediately.
Rs5m reward suggestion
The police’s Counter-Terrorism Department on Wednesday urged the inspector general of police Sindh to approach the home department for announcing a cash reward of Rs5 million for the arrest of the culprits involved in a recent grenade attack on a mini-truck near Mowach Goth, CTD DIG Omar Shahid Hamid said.
The CTD chief in a letter to the IG stated that an incident of grenade blast occurred on Aug 14 (Independence Day) in a Shehzore truck at Mowach Mor near a petrol station in which 13 persons, mostly women and children, were killed and eight others wounded.
An FIR under terror charges was registered at the Madina police station.
“This was a very grisly act of terrorism which had also created panic and a sense of insecurity in the public of Karachi,” said DIG Hamid.
He suggested that the home department be approached for the announcement of a Rs5m reward for any person(s) providing information leading to the arrest of the suspected persons involved in this attack.
Guard of honour
A guard of honour was presented to “front-line soldiers, doctors and paramedical staff” by the Motorway police at a function at the Sindh Services Hospital on Wednesday.
Motorway Police DIG Ali Sher Jakhrani said 220 doctors in Pakistan had sacrificed their lives in line of duty, of which 77 doctors are from Sindh, including Dr Mahnoor Farzand, who performed her duties and served the people keeping her health and life at stake.
Motorway police SP Syed Farhan, deputy secretary for the health department Riaz Jakhrani, additional MS Dr Arif and Dr Syed Farhat Abbas also spoke.
