HARIPUR: A local court on Thursday sent a schoolgirl to the Darul Aman (shelter home) and her alleged kidnapper and his father to jail on remand.

The police produced the girl before a judicial magistrate.

She told the court that she had converted to Islam of her own free will before marrying Zulqarnain Zahid in a Swabi court without any coercion or temptation.

The girl said she wanted to live with her husband.

The Ghazi police had registered a case on Aug 11 against Zulqarnain Zahid and his father under Section 365-B of PPC for kidnapping a ninth grader from Mubeen Banda area in Ghazi tehsil on Aug 3.

The police said they arrested the girl’s alleged kidnapper and his father after her recovery from their house on Wednesday evening.

The marriage documents show that the girl solemnised marriage with Zulqarnain on Aug 7, while her dowry was fixed at Rs400,000 cash and four tolas of gold jewellery along with Rs15,000 monthly payment in case of marital dispute.

The girl’s parents insisted that she was an underage girl, so she wasn’t allowed to get married.

They added that the medical certificate, which showed that the girl had attained puberty, was fake.

Her parents said the Nadra registration certificate showed their daughter’s date of birth as Jan 10, 2007, so she was 14.6 years old.

KILLED: A man allegedly stabbed his father to death in the limits of Kot Najibullah area here, the police said on Thursday.

According to the Kotnajibullah police, Faiz Shamshad of Mohallah Malikabad attacked his father, Shamshad, with a knife injuring him critically.

The injured died on the way to the hospital.

The police claimed they had arrested the accused.
