KARACHI: A sessions’ court on Thursday issued the schedule for “expeditious” trial of a case, on a day-to-day basis from Aug 30, pertaining to murder of TV anchorperson Mureed Abbas and another individual over shady investments worth billions of rupees.

Atif Zaman along with his brother Adil Zaman has been charged with killing his two business partners — Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat — in the Khayaban-i-Bukhari area of Defence on the night of July 9, 2019.

On Thursday, the matter came up before additional district and sessions’ judge (South) Faraz Ahmed Chandio.

The judge noted that “as the instant Sessions Case falls within the category of old cases on the board of this Court, hence same is ordered to be proceeded under the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the Model Criminal Trial Court (MCTC).”
