TAXILA: The district administration has banned entry of all religious leaders delivering hate speeches in gatherings besides banning the use of loudspeakers during Muharram.
This decision was taken during a meeting with representatives of different sects besides members of the District Peace Committee, held in the office of deputy commissioner Attock on Tuesday.
Participants of the meeting were informed that over 30 places were termed sensitive in Attock district where different law enforcement agencies including Rangers would be deployed to assist the local administration in maintaining law and order during Muharram. These places include Maluwali, Domail, Jahmat, Shebazpur, Pindigheb, Fatehjang, Sheenbagh, Shakerdera and Kamra Kalah.
According to the Prescribed Code of Conduct sent to leaders of sects, a ban has been imposed on use of loudspeakers, while no one would be allowed to distribute any objectionable literature, deliver provocative speeches and make derogatory remarks against anyone.
The witnessing of processions from rooftops would be banned and display of weapons has been prohibited. Moreover, no vehicle would be allowed within 100 yards of imambargahs or processions, while traditional routes of Ashura processions would not be changed or extended. Organisers of all majalis and processions have been asked to arrange metal detectors and walk-through gates to avoid entry of terrorists.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said a comprehensive security plan will be implemented with coordination of all departments concerned as well as religious scholars and leaders.
He said the district administration and the police with the help of organisers of Ashura processions would ensure that all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for curbing spread of Covid-19 are followed.
He said the administration has assured organisers of majalis and processions of providing foolproof security. We are on the same page with ulema in wanting to promote peace, love and brotherhood in society.
