RAWALPINDI: The Government of Pakistan today (Aug 7) releases a list of 88 MNAs-elect of the defunct Awami League, who, it said, will continue to retain their seats as members-elect of the National Assembly. All other MNAs of the defunct Awami League, whose names did not appear in this list, the announcement said, will be given an opportunity to clear themselves of specific charges relating to the commission of criminal offences before their cases were decided.

…Today’s list has been released in pursuance of the President’s broadcast of June 28, 1971, in which he had banned the Awami League as a political party. The MNAs and MPAs-elect … will retain their seats in their individual capacities, except those who had committed criminal acts. In all 167 MNAs had been elected on the tickets of the defunct Awami League…. — Newspaper’s staff correspondent
