Protest against ‘police excesses’

NAWABSHAH, Oct 31: Resid-ents of the 68-Mori staged a demonstration on Monday in protest against alleged atrocities of police. Hundreds of residents of the area including Dr Abid Brohi, Kashif Arain and Gohram burnt tyres and blocked the 68-Mori-Nawabshah road.

They demanded that check-post in-charge Attaullah Brohi and constable Mohammad Hussain be removed.

The protesters alleged that the police harassed law-abiding people while criminals had been roaming free due to which crime had increased.

They said that in-charge of the police post and other police constable had gone to the tailor shop of Sohrab Shaubani and abused him.

They alleged that policemen beat him up severely and locked him in the check-post on Sunday night.

They said that the residents and businessmen were frightened of the police excesses and closed their businesses in protest.

They demanded that Sukkur RPO and Nawabshah DPO should immediately suspend in-charge and staff of the 68-Mori check post and ensure justice to the residents.

BOOKED: The Nawabshah police on Monday registered a case against 10 people for beating a man and issuing death threats to him.

According to reports, Nazir Malik, son of Mohammad Sharif, lodged an FIR under section 337 A-1, 506/2, 147 and 504 at the Daulatpur police station stating that Atta Mohammad, Adnan, Aftab, Naveed, Tanveer, Irshad, Shamshad, Imran, Naveed and Akram (all Khanzadas) came to the cable office of Mukhtiar Soomro at 11.30pm on October 27 where he was sitting with his brother.

They beat him up severely and tore his clothes and issued death threats if he did not leave Daulatpur forever.

The complainant in the FIR said that the incident had perhaps taken place on directives of a former MPA.

No arrests were made till the filing of this report.

It may be mentioned that Nazir Malik had married a Khanzada girl, Arifa, sometime back and was being pressurized to leave Daulatpur.
