ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Aftershocks of October 8 earthquake will continue for few weeks but with low intensity, says Meteorological Department chief. Meteorological Department Director-General Dr Qamaru Zaman Chaudhry said on Monday that in the last 24 hours, frequency in aftershocks had decreased.

He said severe cold waves and winds were expected in northeast and other mountainous regions and temperature would decrease in next coming days.

He said that in November temperature would be very low upto (minus). People need extremely warm clothes, tents and blankets to protect themselves from chilling cold.

The Met office chief said that there were no chances of rainfall in the quake-hit areas during the current week.

Talking with a private TV channel, he said there will be freezing temperature in the quake-hit areas by mid November.

Responding to another question he said during last 24 hours about 14 aftershocks were recorded on Richter scale. However, he said magnitude of the aftershocks recorded were very low.

High pressure to the north-west with low pressure over southern areas maintain an east to north-easterly wind across the earthquake-affected region of Pakistan is predicted. Showers of snow are likely in mountainous areas of the north and east.
