KARACHI, Oct 31: The Sindh Education and Literacy Department on Monday termed the protest of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat and other political parties over the teaching of Sindh language as “unnecessary”.

It said the said issue had already been resolved in the light of the Sindh chief minister’s directives.

A spokesman for the Sindh Education department said the department had taken all necessary steps to ensure the teaching of Sindhi Salees (simple) from classes four to intermediate, and especially in Class XI, in accordance with the Language Act, 1972.

He maintained that protests from some quarters in this regard were entirely “unwanted”.

He added that the process of teaching Sindhi Salees in Karachi’s colleges had been started for which textbooks were already available while the shortage of teachers was being covered.

The spokesman said there was no dispute between the Sindhi and Urdu speaking peoples on the issue, and that some parties were just exploiting the issue for political gains.

“Not only political parties but some non-political platforms too are trying to gain political mileage by exploiting the sensitive issue of language,” he added.

The spokesman advised all groups active on the language issue to avoid from politicizing it and come forward to support the government in its activities for quality education in Sindh.—PPI
