Champions ousted

KARACHI, Oct 30: Mohammad Hussain CC, winners of the past two years, failed to reach the semifinals of the Aga Khan Gymkhana Ramazan cricket tournament when they went down by seven wickets to Omar CC at the AKG Ground on Sunday.

Cantt Sports CC were also through when they defeated A.O.CC by 40 runs in the last quarterfinal.

Batting first, Mohammad Hussain CC scored 151 for six in 20 overs. Mohammad Zafar played for a 53-ball unbeaten knock of 67 with the aid of four fours and three sixes.

Omar CC, helped by a third-wicket partnership of 104 between Naeem Ahmed Khan (59 of 41 balls, three fours and one six) and Daniyal Ahsan (56 with five boundaries), reached their target in the 18th over.

Fine batting by skipper Jaffar Qureshi (69 off 34 balls, seven fours and four sixes), Mohammad Masroor (59 with five fours and one six) and Nadeem Tariq (40 with seven fours) guided the in-form Cantt Sports CC team to 207 for three.

A.O.CC, in reply, were restricted to 167 for seven with Masroor taking two for 30.
