KARACHI, Oct 29: The Sindh government has constituted a Disaster Management Committee to prepare recommendations for any possible emergency in Sindh. Wasim Akhter, Adviser to the CM on Local Government, is Chairman of the committee whereas the other members include are senior member Board of Revenue, secretary local government, director Meteorological Survey, DCO Karachi, DHA Administrator, MD KESC, MD KWSB, Chairman Hesco, chief of KBCA, MD of SSGC, Vice-Chancellor of the Urdu University, representatives of the NED University, Hamdard University and University of Engineering and Technology (Jamshoro).

Terms of reference: To suggest measures for cooperation between various departments/agencies; to suggest precautionary measures in the event of an earthquake, cyclone or other natural calamities; to suggest disaster awareness and relevant remedial measures; to suggest ways to handle situation in the wake of a natural calamity; to prepare contingency plans for rehabilitation of the affected people; to consolidate all reports prepared by various institutions and organizations viz-a-viz a disaster; to recommend measures for meeting emergencies in a most effective manner; and to suggest steps towards checking rumours.—APP
