KARACHI, Oct 29: The Sindh Local Government Adviser, Waseem Akhtar, has pledged quota for blind people in the residential scheme of Taiser Town, saying he would soon meet the Sindh governor in this regard.

Speaking at a seminar organized on Saturday by the Pakistan Association of Blinds (PAB) in connection with the World White Cane Day, he said the government was committed to solving the problems of blind people on priority basis.

He assured blind persons of government’s complete financial and moral support, saying that blind people were an important component of society.

He said two per cent quota for blind people in public sector jobs already existed while other incentives were in the pipeline, also promising to take special steps for ensuring easy access to education by blind people.

He said a comprehensive plan seeking facilities for visually impaired people would be chalked out with the PAB’s help.

Mr Akhtar said he would soon take up the matter with concern authorities regarding conferment of gold medals on blind students studying in classes between matric and master’s.

The adviser also announced to hire at least one blind person in every administration of the 18 towns in Karachi.—PPI
