CHINIOT, Oct 28: An SHO, a constable and five activists of the ISO and Tehrik-i-Jafferia received bullet injuries in an exchange of fire here on Friday.
According to reports, Tehrik-i-Jafferia and ISO activists took out a Youm Al Quds rally after Friday prayers from Al-Zaman Mosque near Sabzi Mandi. The police did not allow the participants to move further when the rally reached Jhang Road.
This led to a strife between law enforcers and rally participants. Police resorted to baton charge while participants started hurling stones on them. Later, police and participants exchanged fire which resulted in injuries to City SHO Rana Arshad, constable Ghulam Shabbir and five TJP and ISO activists.
They were admitted to hospital. The injured were identified as Abdullah Akhnan, Ata Malik, Fazal Abbas, Imran and Riaz.
It may be mentioned that the Sadar police station staff slipped away after locking the police station when the procession reached near it.
INQUIRY: Jhang District Nazim Sahibzada Hamid Sultan ordered a probe into the corruption allegations against the deputy district officer (health), Chiniot.
Complaints were lodged against the DDO (H) for embezzling millions of rupees in procurement and supply of medicines to district council dispensaries. Chiniot DDO (R) Ali Jan Khan has been appointed as an inquiry officer.
BAHAWALPUR: Police prevented the Imamia Students Organization (ISO) from taking out a rally and arrested its four activists here on Friday.
According to an ISO release, students took out a rally in connection with the Al-Quds day after Friday prayers from Jamia Masjid on Zanana Hospital Road. As the participants appeared from a street leading to the mosque, a heavy police contingent deployed at Zanana Hospital Road intercepted them and asked them to disperse. This led to a scuffle between ISO activists and the policemen.
According to eyewitnesses, police arrested four ISO activists, including divisional president Nazir Abbas.
